Persian Cold Drink recipe: Saffron Basil Seed Drink (Sharbat Tokhm-e-Sharbati)

Ingredients:

- Water: 4 cups

- Lemon: Half of one lemon

- Sugar: As needed

- Brewed saffron: 1.5 tablespoons

- Basil seeds: 4 tablespoons

- Ice: A few cubes

 

 Instructions:

 

  1. Prepare the Basil Seeds:

   The first step in making this delightful drink is to place the basil seeds in a bowl. Fill the bowl with water and set it aside for 10 minutes. Afterward, strain the basil seeds.

 

  1. Mix Water and Sugar:

   In a bowl, combine the water and sugar and stir well until the sugar dissolves. Remove the seeds from the lemon and squeeze the juice of half a lemon.

 

  1. Combine Ingredients:

   Take a pitcher and add the basil seeds along with the sugar water. Add the freshly squeezed lemon juice and brewed saffron to the pitcher and stir the mixture well. Taste the drink and add more sugar if needed.
